Kakha Kaladze, the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday claimed the country would obtain the  EU candidacy later this year with “100 percent guarantee despite the attempts of the radical opposition”, but noted in the case of the bloc’s “unfair” decision, the Government would “come out to explain reasons to the people”.

Kaladze said the conditions for the status would be “fully met” before the European Commission’s report next month, and the EU would have “no arguments” to reject the status again, like in June 2022.

The European Council has been scheduled to decide on Tbilisi’s status in December, using the Commission’s report.
