Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that decisions made by the US House of Representatives, now under the leadership of Speaker Mike Johnson, could play a decisive role in establishing real peace in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy congratulated the 119th US Congress on the start of its first legislative session and extended his best wishes to Republican Mike Johnson on his election as Speaker of the House.

“The bipartisan and bicameral support of the US Congress has allowed Ukraine to save thousands of lives and prevent many cities from falling into the hands of Russian occupiers. Together with all freedom-loving allies in Congress, we have demonstrated that the courage of the Ukrainian people, combined with America’s leadership, can effectively halt Russian aggression,” Zelenskyy said.

He emphasized the importance of Congress remaining steadfast and united in defense of human and democratic values. “For global stability, it is crucial that both sides of Congress, along with all its members who truly value freedom, come together to uphold these principles,” he added.

Zelenskyy highlighted the potential significance of future decisions by the House of Representatives, noting their role in achieving “real and lasting peace.” He also expressed the deep gratitude of the Ukrainian people for the unwavering support of the US Congress and the American people.

The Ukrainian president concluded by wishing Johnson success in his “very important work.”
