Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Belarus is aware of the measures it needs to take to contribute to peace, amid concerns over the construction of military infrastructure near Ukraine’s border under Russian influence.
According to Zelenskyy, Acting Head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service Oleh Luhovskyi briefed him on the current situation in Belarus and developments along the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
The President said that construction is nearing completion on road infrastructure, ammunition storage facilities and fuel depots along the border. He stressed that these sites serve no purpose other than military use.
Zelenskyy noted that Belarus has already received signals from Ukraine regarding such activities, as well as other forms of cooperation with Russia that, according to Kyiv, are aimed at prolonging or escalating the war.
“Belarus knows what steps it needs to take to achieve peace. The development of border infrastructure intended for aggression from Belarusian territory must stop. It is Belarus that must take steps toward de-escalation and peace,” Zelenskyy said.
