Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine has agreed to the United States’ proposal for a 30-day ceasefire across its entire territory, stating, “This decision was made to demonstrate that Ukraine is ready for peace.”
During a meeting in Saudi Arabia between Ukrainian and US teams, discussions initially focused on a proposal for silence in the air and sea, but the American side later presented an alternative approach. Zelenskyy explained that in the middle of the meeting, both the Ukrainian team and the US delegation appeared to discuss whether Ukraine was willing to take steps to ensure a ceasefire across the country.
“I’ve repeatedly noted that none of us trusts the Russians; we have experienced that. However, we will not play with narratives suggesting we do not want the war to end. I am very serious about this, and it is important for me to end the war. I want the US President to see this so that Europe, and everyone, can join forces to compel the Russian Federation to end the war,” Zelenskyy stated.
The agreement for the 30-day ceasefire was made during the March 11 meeting in Saudi Arabia, with Ukraine now awaiting Russia’s response. US Secretary of State has indicated that America plans to reach out to Russia regarding the ceasefire on March 12.
