Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday said Russian President Vladimir Putin intended to trigger a “humanitarian catastrophe” in Ukraine during the upcoming winter season.
Zelenskyy earlier the day met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London. International media outlets report Starmer reaffirmed Britain’s “absolute commitment to fighting Russian aggression” and said “significant steps” had been taken this week to increase pressure on Moscow.
The Ukrainian leader stressed that Russia continued targeting critical infrastructure, seeking to make living conditions unbearable for civilians in the cold months ahead.
“Putin wants to create a humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine this winter”, Zelenskyy said following the meeting.
Zelenskyy also held an audience with King Charles III, expressing gratitude for the United Kingdom’s continued support.
“I thank His Majesty and the entire United Kingdom for the unwavering support for our people, for standing with Ukraine and for strong public calls to restore peace in our country”, Zelensky wrote.
