Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday condemned a Russian airstrike on the village of Yarovaya in Donetsk Oblast, which targeted civilians during the distribution of pensions. Preliminary reports indicate that more than 20 people were killed.
“Russia carried out a brutal airstrike on Yarovaya, directly targeting ordinary peaceful civilians at the very moment pensions were being distributed. Preliminary reports suggest over 20 fatalities. I have no words… My deepest condolences go to the families and loved ones of the victims,” Zelensky said.
The President emphasised that such attacks could not go unanswered by the international community.
“Russians continue to destroy lives while evading new strict sanctions and countermeasures. The world must not stay silent. The world must not remain passive. We need a response from the United States, a response from Europe, a response from the G20. Strong action is necessary to stop Russia from killing,” Zelensky stated.
Vadym Filashkin, head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, reported that at least 21 people were killed and another 21 injured in the enemy strike on Yarovaya.
