Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday said Russia is considering scenarios for launching attacks against Ukraine from Belarus and Russia’s Bryansk region.

“Of course, we are already working in these directions to strengthen our defence. The military command has received the relevant instructions, but we are also taking preventive measures both in Belarus and in certain parts of Russia where threats exist,” Zelenskyy said.

The President said he expects Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry to intensify work regarding Belarus, including increasing pressure and strengthening coordination with Kyiv’s international partners.

“To be honest, I am already fed up with the constant threat that the Russians could at some point drag Belarus into further escalation of the war. They must understand that there will be consequences for them and those consequences will be significant,” he stated.

Zelenskyy also said Ukraine has specific capabilities to respond to any threat originating from Russian territory.
