Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday said Russia has five possible scenarios for escalating the war from the north, adding that Ukraine would reinforce its forces in response to the potential threat.

Zelenskyy presented the results of a staff meeting during which intelligence reports on possible Russian offensive operations from the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction were reviewed.

“Ukraine will definitely defend itself and our task now is to strengthen our state so that none of Russia’s five scenarios for expanding the war in northern Ukraine succeeds,” Zelenskyy said.

The President added Ukraine is preparing responses to all possible scenarios should Russia decide to escalate its aggression further.

He added that Ukrainian forces would be reinforced in the northern direction.

“I instructed Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry to prepare additional diplomatic measures against Belarus, which Russia could use for further expansion of the war. Ukraine’s intelligence services also have corresponding non-public tasks,” Zelenskyy stated.
