Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday held a meeting with National Security and Defence Council Secretary Rustem Umerov to discuss new defence agreements aimed at strengthening the country’s long-term security.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine was preparing new defence accords that would enhance its combat aviation and build a powerful air force.

“It is important that all our state institutions and components of the defence forces involved in preparing and implementing these agreements are properly coordinated”, Zelenskyy wrote.

The President also said that a series of meetings with European leaders and coalition partners supporting Ukraine were planned for this week. He noted that each partner must clearly understand how they can support Ukraine “most effectively” right now.

Among the key topics, Zelenskyy highlighted the country’s air defence needs, the content of upcoming defence packages, the expansion of the PURL programme, the supply of equipment for energy restoration and coordination on tightening sanctions against Russia.

During the meeting, officials also discussed the upcoming agenda of the General Staff and the needs of Ukraine’s defence industry.

Zelenskyy stressed that by the end of the year, at least 50 percent of the front line must be supplied with Ukrainian-made weapons, calling this target “a goal that must be achieved”.
