Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that US President Donald Trump may visit Ukraine to support a peace agreement aimed at ending the war.
Zelenskyy said the Ukrainian authorities continue contacts with representatives of the current US administration to discuss the peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian President and his team are holding ongoing talks with Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the US President’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Zelenskyy noted that the discussions focus on new ideas regarding formats, timelines and steps that could help bring about lasting peace, as well as on technical details related to the preparation of relevant documents.
The Ukrainian President said that Witkoff and Kushner are already ready to visit Ukraine. He added that President Trump himself could also travel to Ukraine in order to demonstrate his position and support a peace agreement to end the war.
“I think it is possible that Trump himself will visit Ukraine to substantiate his position,” Zelenskyy said.
It was reported on December 26 that Trump is scheduled to meet Zelenskyy on Sunday, December 28, at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
Zelenskyy also stated that during his meeting with the US President, he intends to raise the issue of territories. According to him, discussions with Trump will include the situation in Donbas as well as the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
