US President Donald Trump has expressed interest in Ukraine’s vast reserves of rare minerals, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced. He emphasized that attracting foreign investment is a key part of Ukraine’s economic recovery strategy.
“We have significant reserves of rare minerals, and as you know, Russia has occupied our territories since 2014. Some of these areas contain major mineral deposits. We are open to having our partners develop them—those who help us defend our land, push back the enemy with their weapons, presence, and sanctions. This is absolutely fair,” Zelenskyy stated.
According to Zelenskyy, he discussed potential US investments in Ukraine with Trump as early as September.
“We welcome American companies investing here—gladly. Why? Because if Russia controls this sector, other countries and companies will enter, including Iran and North Korea. I spoke to him about this—these are the facts. I would like to see American businesses, which are highly interested in Ukraine’s market, develop this sector here,” Zelenskyy said.
In return for securing access to Ukraine’s rare mineral reserves, the US president has reportedly promised to continue military aid to Kyiv.
Ukraine is home to some of the world’s largest deposits of uranium, lithium, and titanium, resources that are crucial for global industries, including defense and technology.
