Ukraine is responding to Russian strikes on its energy infrastructure and will continue to do so, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday during a joint press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Uzhhorod.
“Ukraine is responding to Russia’s attacks on our energy facilities, and it will respond,” Zelensky stated, adding that while Kyiv seeks an end to the war, “no one will simply accept darkness”.
Since 2022, Russian forces have regularly targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Strikes intensified again in August, after President Vladimir Putin openly declared that such attacks would continue.
During his recent visit to Beijing, Putin claimed Russia had “never attacked the energy sector,” insisting that strikes were carried out only in response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil facilities.
