Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine has been attempting to persuade the United States to allow strikes deep into Russian territory using American weapons. According to him, such a move is crucial as it would set a precedent for Ukraine’s allies, who are closely watching Washington’s decisions.

“Everyone is watching the United States’ decisions, everyone is waiting for them, and subsequent decisions are made based on that. We wanted to use these weapons strictly for attacking military bases, not civilian infrastructure,” Zelensky said.

He emphasized that Ukraine’s goal is to target bases used for bombing Ukrainian territory.

“Every month, they [Russia] drop 4,000 guided bombs on the eastern part of our territory from these planes. With these missiles and bombs, they are hitting civilians, schools, and the energy sector. Eighty percent of our energy infrastructure has been destroyed,” Zelensky added.

The Ukrainian president also noted that Ukraine has been waiting for a decision on this matter for a long time.
