Ukraine and its partners will hold consultations aimed at achieving peace and Ukraine’s delegation is prepared to defend national interests and prevent a new Russian offensive, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday.
“Our representatives know how to protect Ukraine’s national interests and what is required to ensure that Russia cannot carry out a third invasion or launch yet another attack on Ukraine, just as it has repeated crimes against our people and other nations in the past,” Zelenskyy said.
The President noted that he had signed a decree approving the composition of the delegation as well as all relevant directives. He added the agenda goes far beyond the wording of any single document.
“We must ensure that there is no principle anywhere in Europe or in the world that crimes against people and humanity - against states and nations - can bring rewards or forgiveness. True peace is always based on guaranteed security and justice. And this sentiment is not mine alone - I know it is shared by millions of our people and by the majority of people worldwide,” he stated.
Recent reports indicate that the United States has developed a new 28-point “peace plan” aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, though it includes several controversial provisions. According to media, the plan would require Ukraine to withdraw from Donbas, reduce its military forces and abandon long-range weaponry. In exchange, Ukraine would receive security guarantees similar to those of NATO.
Kyiv reportedly has until November 27 to respond. US President Donald Trump said Zelenskyy should accept the plan and that, if Ukraine rejects it, the country will have to continue fighting.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that Zelenskyy, together with European leaders, is working to revise elements of the US plan to make it fair to Kyiv.
National Security and Defence Council Secretary Rustem Umerov said today that Ukrainian and US officials will hold consultations in Switzerland in the coming days regarding a future agreement with Russia.
