Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday said Kyiv is seeking to normalise relations with Georgia and is prepared to take steps towards cooperation based on mutual respect and understanding.
In a statement published on social media, Zelenskyy said he had discussed the issue with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha as part of broader talks on Ukraine’s foreign policy priorities for May and June.
“[Andrii Sybiha] also spoke about communication with Georgia’s foreign minister. We are trying to normalise relations and cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and mutual understanding, and we are ready to take steps in this direction,” Zelenskyy wrote.
The Ukrainian president also said Kyiv continued active dialogue with Hungary’s new authorities and saw prospects for what he described as a “constructive reset” in bilateral relations.
Zelenskyy added Ukrainian officials were preparing for bilateral consultations with Hungary, and he said he expected concrete results from the process.
The statement additionally addressed Ukraine’s EU accession efforts, with Zelenskyy saying Ukrainian officials were continuing work with European institutions to open negotiation clusters related to membership talks with the European Union.
He said Ukraine had already taken the necessary steps and stressed the importance of establishing clear timelines for the process.
Zelenskyy also referred to discussions linked to negotiations aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine and the possible role of European representation in those efforts, though he said those issues were not yet public.
