Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the 64th Grammy Awards late yesterday, following horrific images and videos reflecting Russian aggression that have gone viral from the Ukrainian town of Bucha.
The town has endured five weeks of constant firefights. Videos and the photos of killed civilians by Russian troops have shocked the world.
Zelensky called on musicians attending the awards to “tell our story” of his country which is facing a severe humanitarian crisis since the Russian invasion starting February 24.
“The war. What is more opposite to music? The silence of ruined cities and killed people. Our children draw swooping rockets, not shooting stars,” said Zelenskyy. “Over 400 children have been injured and 153 children died. We’ll never see them drawing. Our parents are happy to wake up in the morning. In bomb shelters, but alive. Our loved ones don’t know if we will be together again,” Zelensky said.
Despite evidence Russia has dismissed allegations of killing civilians.
