Zelenskyy disputes Trump’s claims on US aid to Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has pushed back against US President Donald Trump’s claims regarding the amount of financial aid sent to Kyiv.

During a speech on February 18, Trump stated, “I think we gave Kyiv about $350 billion. Maybe a little less, but it’s a significant amount. But where is all this money? Where is it going?”

Zelenskyy countered these figures, saying they do not reflect reality.

“I believe it’s important to clarify the aid numbers. We have precise figures. The war has cost us $320 billion—$120 billion from the Ukrainian people and $200 billion from the US and the EU. If we break it down, the total US contribution includes $67 billion in weapons and $31.5 billion in direct financial aid to our budget,” Zelenskyy said at a press conference.

According to US State Department data from January 20—before Trump’s inauguration—the US had provided Ukraine with approximately $69.2 billion in military assistance since Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Additionally, the Council on Foreign Relations, a respected American think tank, estimates that total US assistance to Ukraine since the war began stands at around $175 billion.
