Following a tense Oval Office meeting with Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took to social media to express gratitude toward the United States and reaffirm Ukraine’s commitment to peace.

“Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people. Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.” Zelenskyy wrote on X.

His message comes after a highly publicized and heated exchange with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, during which Trump pressured Ukraine to negotiate a ceasefire and accused Zelenskyy of being ungrateful for US support. Vance, meanwhile, questioned whether Ukraine had thanked the US enough, echoing Trump’s stance that Zelenskyy was “not ready for peace” if American involvement continued.
