Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that the United States is preparing a “significant decision” to bolster support for Ukraine, with an official announcement expected on Monday. In a video address on Sunday, Zelenskyy highlighted upcoming aid packages for Ukrainian fighters, underscoring the continued international support amid ongoing conflict with Russia.
According to the Associated Press, the aid package is expected to total $1.25 billion and will include advanced air defense systems such as NASAMS and HAWK, as well as Stinger missiles. Reuters previously reported that this would be among the final measures by President Joe Biden’s administration before Donald Trump returns to the White House on January 20.
The Pentagon estimates that the United States has provided approximately $62.9 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since Russia’s large-scale invasion began in February 2022. However, Trump, who has criticized extensive military aid, has expressed a commitment to ending the war swiftly through negotiations.
