Georgian analyst Zurab Batiashvili on Wednesday said a United States military aircraft recently seen in the country’s capital city of Tbilisi was likely carrying out reconnaissance or logistical tasks rather than a combat mission, amid ongoing hostilities in the region.

“Serious military operations are under way in the wider region and it is natural that a US aircraft would have a reconnaissance or logistical purpose,” Batiashvili said, adding that a direct combat role was unlikely.

His comments followed the brief landing of a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III at Tbilisi International Airport. The aircraft arrived from the US airbase in Ramstein and departed shortly afterwards.

Batiashvili also referred to a recent conversation between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, suggesting that discussions may have focused on Georgia’s position regarding the conflict involving Iran.

He noted that the issue comes at a critical moment, ahead of an expected address by US President Donald Trump, which could shape the direction of developments surrounding Iran.
