The fate of Ukraine is directly linked to Georgia’s geopolitical standing, analyst Zurab Batiashvili warned on Friday. Speaking on the matter, he suggested that “if Ukraine fails to withstand Russian aggression, Georgia will struggle to remain on the international agenda”.

His comments come amid growing discussions in the United States regarding the proposed MEGOBARI Act, a legislative initiative concerning Georgia. Batiashvili expressed optimism that the bill, expected to be debated in the second half of March, would pass with bipartisan support.

“The issue of Ukraine is directly related to the issue of Georgia. If Ukraine fails to survive, then the issue of Georgia will never be on the agenda at all,” Batiashvili said. “But at the same time, we know that the MEGOBARI Act should be discussed in the second half of this month and will most likely be adopted because it has bipartisan support and, as a rule, bipartisan support does not encounter any obstacles.”

He also highlighted Europe’s increasing focus on security matters, noting that Georgia remained an important part of the continent’s broader security landscape.
