Zurab Japaridze, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, on Wednesday said he had no doubt that the current political struggle will end in victory and that it will be built on the efforts of protesters gathered on Rustaveli Avenue.
In a post on social media, Japaridze said the outcome of the struggle would be based on what is happening on Rustaveli Avenue and the people who continue to protest there.
He also addressed public debate around Hungarian opposition figure Peter Magyar and his recent victory in elections, saying he had read various interpretations but wanted to clarify his position on who he listens to in politics.
Japaridze said he primarily listens to allied politicians who, in his view, are at the forefront of the political struggle.
He named several opposition figures, including Nika Gvaramia, Nika Melia, Tina Bokuchava, and others, saying he valued their input even when he disagreed with them.
He also said he listens closely to imprisoned opposition figures, describing them as having made the greatest sacrifice by giving up their freedom, as well as to other “prisoners of conscience.”
Japaridze added that he paid attention to the daily protesters on Rustaveli Avenue, saying they have sustained demonstrations for more than 500 days in all weather conditions.
He further said he listens to his supporters, ordinary citizens he meets in daily life, and people who engage with him in public spaces, describing these interactions as important sources of political insight.
Japaridze concluded that the idea that “politicians do not listen to people” is, in his view, incorrect, and said he did not believe political responsibility should be framed as a special burden beyond ordinary citizens.
