Koridze claimed the Georgian Dream aimed to punish media outlets and eliminate self-regulation in favour of government oversight.

Zviad Koridze, a media expert and member of Transparency International – Georgia, has criticised the ruling Georgian Dream party, accusing it of attempting to destroy media independence and impose state control over journalistic content.

“The government is directly saying that we need a law and that we should regulate the media space the way we want,” Koridze said on Thursday, warning that such rhetoric signaled a shift toward authoritarianism.

He further claimed the Georgian Dream aimed to punish media outlets and eliminate self-regulation in favour of government oversight. “This is a dictatorship. This is the destruction of free media,” he added.

Koridze’s remarks come as the Communications Regulatory Commission prepares to review a complaint submitted by the ruling party against three media organisations. The hearing is scheduled for 3:00 PM today.
