The Tbilisi City Court has sentenced opposition politician Zviad Kuprava to two years and six months in prison after finding him guilty of calling for the overthrow of the government and resisting a public official.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Tamar Mchedlishvili.
Kuprava, a member of the opposition United National Movement, was arrested by the State Security Service of Georgia on October 1, 2025.
He was charged under Article 317 of Georgia's Criminal Code for allegedly calling for the overthrow of the government in a video address, and under Article 353(1) for resisting a representative of the authorities.
The court found Kuprava guilty on both counts.
Judge Mchedlishvili sentenced him to two years and six months' imprisonment on the charge of publicly calling for the overthrow of the government, while imposing a fine of GEL 5,000 for the conviction related to resisting a public official.
