Georgian top cleric Grigol “deeply saddened” by death of Metropolitan Kallistos Ware of Diokleia

The Georgian Metropolitan Grigol of Poti and Khobi on Wednesday said he was “deeply saddened” by the recent death of Metropolitan Kallistos Ware, Metropolitan of Diokleia and hierarch of the Ecumenical Throne, who passed away on August 24.

“Your Eminence, you leave an indelible mark in the life of the Orthodox Church with your teachings and academic work. It was an honour to know you. Rest in peace, good shepherd”, said the Georgian Metropolitan Grigol in his farewell message.

The sad news was reported by the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain earlier on Wednesday, describing the deceased cleric as a “noted scholar, lecturer and author, and devout and faithful clergyman, a beloved spiritual father”.
