Georgian Public Defender Nino Lomjaria has stated that state tenders have become an easy source of income, in comments on the recent arrest of nine for an electrocution incident last week in the renovated central Vake Park, which killed one minor in a fountain and injured two others. 

Lomjaria also said that a low qualification of workforce and procedural complications hindered the proper implementation of construction projects. 

"In the country, there are not as many people with technical knowledge as there are projects being implemented. Construction activities are started by newly founded companies that simply have no experience. State tenders have become an easy source of income. Implementation of state projects is the most successful and easiest business that people have started in recent years. With companies founded shortly before, with no experience and knowledge, this is compounded by a very low level of expertise”, Lomjaria said. 

She stated that the Samkharauli Forensics Bureau was also overloaded, and it could take years to receive unbiased assessments on various projects. 

“Of course, thai does not justify the forgery of documents to have an expert opinion, but state tenders should be planned in the way that procedural barriers be eased”, she said. 

Tbilisi city hall officials and the head and employees of contractor and subcontractor firms were arrested on Tuesday for the deadly incident in Tbilisi.
