Ruling Georgian Dream founder to testify as victim in defrauding case - prosecutor

Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, is scheduled to testify in court as a victim in the case involving Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former head of the co-investment fund. Mikheil Sadradze, the prosecutor for the case, confirmed this to journalists on Tuesday.

"Every individual listed for questioning in court will be interrogated according to the publicized list. Mr. Ivanishvili is among those slated for questioning and will undergo interrogation in line with standard court procedures. Naturally, he will provide relevant information to the court," Sadradze stated.

Regarding an audio recording presented by the defense, purportedly featuring a conversation between Ivanishvili and Bachiashvili, Sadradze noted that an examination has been arranged to authenticate the recording.

"It has been established, in accordance with legal standards, that the accused, Giorgi Bachiashvili, committed the alleged crime. The evidence supporting this assertion is both extensive and compelling," Sadradze added.

The Tbilisi City Court commenced its first procedural session on Wednesday regarding the legal proceedings concerning the alleged defrauding of Ivanishvili by his former financial assistant, Bachiashvili.Bachiashvili, known for his achievements as a venture capitalist and as the founder of the investment firm Mission Gate, faces charges related to alleged misappropriation and unlawful income connected to a cryptocurrency mining investment in 2015. He is accused of embezzling 8,253.13 bitcoins in 2017, valued at $39,215,820 at the time, from Ivanishvili.

Bachiashvili claimed the basis of his accusation was only Ivanishvili's oral testimony.

After the process, he said, "Today is a shameful day for the Georgian judicial system because his case was sent to the court for consideration."
