A march in support of children living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy will take place in Tbilisi on 10 May, with participants set to gather at Rustaveli metro station before marching to the State Chancellery.
The demonstration is scheduled to begin at 18:00 local time.
Parents of children affected by the disease have called on the public to attend the rally regardless of political views, saying the action is aimed at supporting access to life-extending treatment.
In a statement, the parents described Duchenne muscular dystrophy as a fatal genetic condition that causes progressive muscle degeneration from an early age and significantly shortens life expectancy.
They said around 100 children in Georgia are currently living with the disease and urged the state to introduce modern medications and finance treatment programmes capable of slowing disease progression and prolonging patients’ lives.
The organisers said the protest was focused on securing support for children affected by the condition and raising awareness of the need for access to advanced therapies.
