A new residential building is under construction in Borjomi as part of a government programme to provide housing for internally displaced families.

According to the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, the development will accommodate up to 150 families currently living in so-called compact settlement facilities within the municipality.

The newly built apartments will be handed over fully renovated, with the project also including improvements to surrounding infrastructure to ensure adequate living conditions.

The total cost of the construction stands at 15.3 million lari (approximately $5.7 million).

Deputy minister Giorgi Tsagareishvili and the head of the Agency for Internally Displaced Persons, Eco-Migrants and Livelihood Provision, Davit Kaikatsishvili, visited Borjomi to meet displaced families and review progress on the construction site.

Parallel housing projects for internally displaced people are also underway in Tbilisi, Zugdidi and Rustavi.
