16 Georgians evacuated from Afghanistan, to return to Tbilisi today

Sixteen Georgian citizens, who requested the return to Georgia after the Taliban seized control of Kabul on August 15, have already left Kabul and are now flying to Dubai.

 

The Georgian Foreign Ministry says that the individuals will be able to return to Georgia from Dubai later today.

 

Per media reports the Georgian citizens were evacuated via the British charter flight.

 

In total 24 Georgian citizens were in Kabul after the Taliban entered the city.

 

Six of the 24 former Georgian soldiers, who worked on contract either for a Canadian or a British company in Afghanistan, returned to Georgia earlier this week.

 

Two were evacuated by an employer comoany yesterday with the German support.

 

Situation got tense in Afghanistan after the NATO and US troops left the country after almost two decades of presence, following the agreement signed between the former US President Donald Trump and the Taliban back in 2020.
