16% of 1,009 individuals infected with Omicron strain re-contracted virus

Sixteen percent of the 1,009 individuals who have tested positive for the Omicron strain of coronavirus have re-contracted the virus, head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze stated earlier today.

He said that by the end of the week 60 percent of the new cases will be Omicron. 

Georgia has reported 5,326 new Covid-19 cases of 55,474 tests, 3,044 recoveries, and 48 deaths in the past 24 hours. 42,439 remain infected with coronavirus in Georgia as of now.

Georgia has recorded 979,235 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020, of which 922,411 have recovered and 14,359 have died from the virus.

The Omicron strain which was first reported in South Africa at the end of the last year and has spread rapidly across the world. 

It is cited to be less dangerous for lungs than the Delta strain of coronavirus.
