Georgia has marked the 42nd birthday of late national hero Giorgi Antsukhelidze, who was killed during the August 2008 Russia-Georgia war.

Members of the Georgian Defence Forces' 4th Infantry Brigade and representatives of the Giorgi Antsukhelidze Sergeants Academy joined his family at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers' Cemetery to commemorate his life and service.

His fellow servicemen laid a wreath at his grave.

Antsukhelidze served as a junior sergeant with the 41st Battalion of the 4th Infantry Brigade. He was killed in August 2008 during the war between Russia and Georgia.

He was posthumously awarded the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali, First Class, as well as the Defence Ministry medal "For Devotion to the Motherland". He was also awarded the title of National Hero of Georgia.
