The Georgian Orthodox Church is celebrating the Feast of the Transfiguration on 19 August, one of the 12 major holy days in the church calendar.

The holiday commemorates the event on Mount Tabor, where, according to the Gospels, Jesus Christ was transfigured before his disciples Peter, James and John, revealing his divine glory.

The feast, known in Georgian as Peristsvaleba, is marked with special liturgies and blessings in churches across the country.
