242 onboard, Air India Boeing 787 crashes near Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff

Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people - 230 passengers and 12 crew members - crashed on Thursday shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The aircraft, operating Flight AI171 and originally bound for London Gatwick, went down just minutes after departure, plunging into the Meghani Nagar residential area. The crash site was quickly engulfed in thick smoke, as seen in widely circulated video footage.
