One individual with a previous conviction has been arrested on charges of fraudulently obtaining ₾45,360 ($17,315), Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Tuesday.
The Ministry said the investigation found that the suspect promised an acquaintance they would purchase mobile phones at below-market prices for resale in exchange for a sum of money, with the profits to be shared equally. Investigators allege that the suspect failed to fulfil the agreement and instead unlawfully appropriated the victim's ₾ 45,360.
The suspect was arrested as a defendant based on a court order following operational and investigative measures.
The crime is punishable by up to nine years in prison if convicted.
