Two people have been arrested in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi on charges of allegedly fraudulently obtaining $450,900 and using forged documents, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Friday.
The Ministry said the investigation found that the suspects allegedly used forged documentation to deceive a victim into transferring $450,900 for the purchase of 17 vehicles. The funds were then allegedly misappropriated before the suspects fled.
Law enforcement officers arrested the two suspects following operational and investigative measures. Criminal proceedings have also been launched in absentia against a third individual.
The offences are punishable by up to nine years in prison if convicted.
