Police in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi have arrested a suspect on charges of fraud involving ₾467,000 ($177,936), the Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced.
The Ministry said the suspect persuaded an acquaintance to invest money by promising to purchase Apple products from the United States at below-market prices and share the profits from their resale in Georgia. Authorities say the suspect failed to fulfil the agreement and fraudulently appropriated the victim’s money.
The investigation also found that the suspect allegedly obtained 19 mobile phones and a watch from another victim under the pretext of reselling the items, but never paid for them.
The suspect was arrested on the basis of a court warrant following operational and investigative measures.
The crime is punishable by up to nine years’ imprisonment.
