Interpol red notice fugitive from Turkey arrested in Georgia’s Adjara region

Police in Georgia’s southwestern Adjara region have detained a Turkish national wanted under an Interpol red notice, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Sunday.

The body said officers from the Adjara Police Department arrested E.G., born in 1964, following a series of operational and investigative measures.

The suspect was wanted by Turkish law enforcement authorities for establishing and leading an armed group with the intent to commit a crime, unlawfully influencing a public tender and committing aggravated robbery, the statement said.

The Ministry noted that E.G. had crossed the Georgian border before the international search warrant was issued.

The arrest took place in Adjara’s central city of Batumi and extradition procedures are currently underway in accordance with Georgian law, the Ministry added.
