Akhmeta Mayor: Voters Can Cast Ballots in a Peaceful and Free Environment

Residents of Georgia’s Akhmeta municipality are voting in a by-election to elect a majoritarian member of the municipal council.

One political candidate has been registered for the by-election Levan Itiuridze of the Georgian Dream Democratic Georgia party.

Akhmeta Mayor Aleksi Pitskhelauri said voters are able to cast their ballots in a peaceful and free environment.

“The by-election is underway. Given the level of participation so far, voter turnout can be considered active, and residents are able to cast their votes in a peaceful and free environment,” Pitskhelauri said.

Davit Doinjashvili, deputy chair of Akhmeta District Election Commission No. 18, said voting is being conducted using the traditional voting method and that the process has been peaceful.

“The polling station opened at 8:00 a.m. Voting is proceeding in a calm environment, and no violations have been reported,” Doinjashvili said.

By-elections for municipal councils are being held today in four Georgian municipalities Vani, Tsalka, Dmanisi and Akhmeta.
