Georgia’s Deputy Interior Minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze took part in the presentation of the country’s 2025 national report during the fourth cycle of the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in Geneva, the Ministry’s press service said on Monday.
Darakhvelidze briefed Council members on reforms carried out by the Ministry during the reporting period, as well as progress in combating crime. He highlighted recent legislative amendments and measures aimed at tackling irregular migration and organised crime, including drug-related offences.
In his address, the deputy minister also focused on efforts to prevent violence against women and domestic abuse, alongside initiatives to strengthen the protection of minors’ rights.
Darakhvelidze further outlined steps taken by police to maintain public order during recent protests in the country.
The Universal Periodic Review is a UN Human Rights Council mechanism under which member states report on their human rights record every five years. This year’s Georgian delegation includes representatives of the executive, legislative and judicial branches.
