Ambassador Kartozia: Georgia and Germany seek to strengthen bilateral relations

Georgia’s Ambassador to Germany Aleksandre Kartozia on Thursday said there is a shared desire to improve and strengthen relations between the two countries following his presentation of credentials to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Speaking after the ceremony, Kartozia described his conversation with the German President as constructive and said both sides expressed an interest in restoring the traditionally close relationship between the two countries.

“There is a desire for relations between Germany and Georgia to improve and become stronger - to reflect the historical ties between our two countries,” Kartozia said.

The Ambassador also reaffirmed that Georgia’s strategic goal remains membership of the European Union, stressing that Germany’s support is crucial to that objective.

“Georgia’s interest remains joining the European family and becoming a member of the European Union. We reaffirmed this during today’s meeting. Germany’s support is decisive in this regard and I hope we will see positive developments,” he said.

Kartozia noted that Germany is expected to appoint a new ambassador to Georgia in August and expressed hope that both diplomatic missions would work to deepen bilateral ties.
