UNM’S Tsitlidze slams Gov’t of silence over occupied territories

United National Movement leader Anna Tsitlidze has accused the Georgian Dream government of remaining silent over developments in Georgia’s occupied territories and, in some cases, facilitating what she described as the occupation.

“The most alarming thing is that Georgian Dream’s position on this is often silence and, in the worst case, facilitating the occupation,” Tsitlidze said.

She argued that the government’s approach to developments in the occupied territories demonstrated a broader policy of “silence, betrayal and conformism”.

Tsitlidze’s comments came after Russia’s Foreign Ministry said that Russia, Tskhinvali and Abkhazia were seeking legally binding guarantees from Georgia that it would not use force against them.

Moscow has long recognised Abkhazia and South Ossetia (Tskhinvali) as independent states, a position rejected by Georgia and most of the international community.
