41 methadone packages seized as suspect arrested in Tbilisi

One person has been arrested in Tbilisi on charges of illegally acquiring and possessing a particularly large quantity of drugs and facilitating their sale, Georgia's Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

Officers from the Interior Ministry's Police Department of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia seized 41 packages of methadone prepared for distribution during a search of the suspect and their vehicle, as well as investigative measures carried out at a street in Tbilisi.

The ministry said the drugs were seized as evidence.

The offences carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
