A woman has been arrested in Georgia’s Marneuli municipality on suspicion of forcing her underage granddaughter to marry a local man against her will, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

The investigation found that the suspect allegedly forced the girl into marriage on the grounds of gender discrimination and was motivated by intolerance.

Police from the Kvemo Kartli Police Department’s Marneuli district division detained the woman following investigative measures.

The crime carries a prison sentence of up to four years.
