Man arrested in Tbilisi over abuse of minors by violent ideological group

Georgia’s Interior Ministry has arrested a previously convicted man who was serving a suspended sentence on charges of organising and participating in the group abuse and inhuman and degrading treatment of minors, the ministry said on Friday.

In 2023, one of the leaders of a group described by investigators as having a “Nazi-fascist” ideology, together with associates, allegedly lured an acquaintance to an abandoned site in Tbilisi following a dispute. The group allegedly physically assaulted the minor with various blunt objects and subjected him to inhuman and degrading treatment.

Investigators also alleged that in 2025 the suspect organised another group assault on a minor, involving physical violence as well as degrading and inhuman treatment.

The Interior Ministry said investigators had established that associates of the suspect also recorded video footage of the physical and psychological coercion and degrading treatment of the minor on a mobile phone, allegedly with the intention of publishing it online.

The suspect was arrested on the basis of a court warrant following a series of investigative and procedural measures, the ministry said.

Some of the other people allegedly involved in the offences are already serving prison sentences, according to the ministry.

 The offences carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
