Police in Georgia have arrested a man in the Kaspi municipality of central Georgia accused of raping a minor, the country’s Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified only as M.N. and born in 1952, was detained by officers from the Shida Kartli regional police department following operational and investigative measures.

Authorities said initial findings indicated the man allegedly used violence to rape a minor from the same village. He was arrested at his home in a rural settlement in Kaspi district.

The investigation is ongoing under Article 137 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which covers rape. If convicted, the offence carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
