Georgian Dream MP Archil Gorduladze has dismissed European Parliament resolutions on Georgia as politically motivated, arguing that they are not based on an objective assessment of the issues under discussion.
Gorduladze, who chairs the Georgian parliament’s Legal Issues Committee, said the European Parliament had repeatedly adopted “unfounded” and “attack-oriented” resolutions against Georgia.
“The European Parliament has fired its unfounded, attack-oriented resolutions nine times and missed the target all nine times,” Gorduladze said, arguing that such resolutions amounted to an attempt to disregard the will of the Georgian people and undermine the country’s sovereignty.
He also criticised the European Parliament’s continued calls for the release of former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili, questioning previous statements about his health.
Gorduladze further argued that the resolutions had little significance, claiming that only a small number of MEPs attend some of the debates before the documents receive majority support.
He said decisions in the European Parliament were driven by political objectives rather than detailed examination of the issues.
Gorduladze also accused some European politicians of encouraging xenophobia and extremism, referring to comments by an MEP that he interpreted as threats against Georgian Dream members and supporters.
