Archil Gorduladze, chairman of the Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, on Friday criticized the European Union bureaucracy, claiming it “shows no respect” for countries, “fails to uphold equal treatment”, and “often acts with corruption.”

Gorduladze further claimed that EU officials “repeatedly spread falsehoods” about Georgia, “attacking the country despite factual evidence”.

He added that the current EU bureaucracy “disregards international law standards” that previously existed, “shows no concern for national sovereignty or human rights,” and sometimes promotes “misleading comparisons,” such as claiming Moldova is ahead of Georgia.

“For this bureaucracy, the country’s sovereignty or human rights protection means nothing. They even go so far as to claim that Moldova is ahead of Georgia - this is an absolute lie. Georgian society should not rely on their statements or decisions,” Gorduladze said.

He also stressed that Georgia continued to fulfill its obligations under bilateral agreements and aligned its legislation with EU law as part of an ongoing process. According to Gorduladze, Georgia was on track to be fully ready for EU accession by 2030, though the final outcome depended on political decisions within the EU bureaucracy.
