Georgian Defence Forces representatives on Thursday paid tribute to Archil Tatunashvili, a former servicemember killed by Russian-controlled occupation forces near Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) in 2018 on what would have been his 43rd birthday.
Chief Sergeant of the Defence Forces Giorgi Gogochuri, along with military personnel, visited the Mukhatgverdi Brothers’ Cemetery in Tbilisi to honor his memory.
Following the ceremony, servicemen travelled to the internally displaced persons settlement in Tsilkani, where they laid flowers at a memorial dedicated to Tatunashvili.
Tatunashvili was unlawfully detained by representatives of the occupying regime in Akhalgori on February 22, 2018. A day later, it was reported that he had been killed while in detention.
His body was later transferred to territory controlled by the Georgian government and buried with full military honors at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers’ Cemetery.
