A senior cleric in Georgia has called on citizens to remain united and strong in defence of the country’s independence, while also voicing solidarity with Ukraine.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Archimandrite Dorote Kurashvili thanked those “fighting for truth, freedom and independence” and expressed gratitude for public support.

“You stand by me, and I stand by you with Christ. Together, all of us who are on the side of light stand guard over Georgia – not only today’s Georgia, but its past, present and future,” he wrote.

He urged Georgians to “unite, grow stronger and defend our glorious country,” saying he had discovered in the people “an unbreakable spirit of Georgia.”

Concluding his message, the cleric stressed “Glory to Georgia! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroic Georgian and Ukrainian peoples! We are victorious.”
